criteria for awarding Honorary Fellowships

1.0 Purpose
Excelsior Community College seeks to identify and recognize exceptional individuals who have made  a significant contribution or have the potential to contribute to the institution’s growth, development and visibility.The award of Honorary Fellow is a designation of distinction.This policy provides a transparent and objective framework for the identification, selection and appointment of persons to the status of Honorary Fellow.
2.0 Definitions
Honorary Fellow – an individual who is recognized for his/her contribution to one or more of the following:
– Research
– Academia
– Culture
– Education
– Business or Industry
– Philanthropy
– Church
The ‘Honorary’ title may be conferred on a person in recognition of his/her contribution in an area of work and is an unpaid designation made by the College.The Honorary Fellow is not a current employee of the institution; however, he or she may be currently employed by other bodies. A ‘Fellow’ is a member of a group of persons who work together in the pursuit of mutual goals or practice of academic, industry and philanthropic service to the benefit of the institution. Honorary Fellows will be recognized for their outstanding contributions in print and electronic media pages
of the College and at relevant social engagements.

3.0 Responsibilities
Honorary Fellows Selection Committee- comprises of a representative from the Church, the COM Chair, an appointee of the COM, Principal or his/her designate, and the two Vice Principals. This committee will be tasked with reviewing nominations and recommending candidates to the Board. Board of Management – makes final decision on the appointment of Honorary Fellows.

Main Campus

Excelsior Community College is a registered institution with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MoEYI) in Jamaica, and the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ), the local accreditation body.

Excelsior Community College obtained Candidacy for Institutional Accreditation in March 2019 from the UCJ. As such, our programmes curricula are developed in alignment with the UCJ’s and recognized industries occupational standards. Additionally, our programmes are aligned to the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission (J-TEC), the National Qualifications Framework of Jamaica (NQF-J) and certifications are to be offered by the Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica (CCCJ).
